Blend shape copy help

I am having trouble importing blend shapes from another file. I have a character that has blend shape models made on different computers. They were made from the same base model, though, and have the same geometry.

When I copy and paste the new shapes into the scene and create a new blend shape deformer, the new shape turns the base model inside out when I use it.

Any ideas would be welcome. I'm down to trying random settings trying to get this to work.

Thanks

No luck, the normals are all out. this is what it looks like. It looks like all the points have been remapped somehow, or reordered. Is that possible?
